The Story

Each of our vintage diamonds is one of a kind – once chosen, it cannot be replaced. The diamond pictured is the diamond you will receive.

This Old Mine Cut diamond is a classic cushion shape which can either be set in a diamond orientation, or squarely on the band as pictured. This diamond comes with a GIA certificate which grades it as colour I and clarity I1, but the charm of these stones is in their uniqueness.

The stone has been photographed in a temporary setting and can be set in a bespoke ring of your choosing. The price listed is for this diamond set in a basket claw on a 2mm wide 18ct yellow gold sandcast band. You can see an example of a finished vintage diamond engagement ring in the final image for reference.

This diamond can be made into a piece of jewellery of your choice. For more information and inspiration we have written a detailed post on designing your bespoke engagement ring here.

Old Mine Cut diamonds are evocative of the past. They were cut by hand hundreds of years ago, following the natural octahedral shape of diamond crystals. As such, the proportions of each stone will vary, and we’ve found that they often come into their own the most when set in yellow gold. They reflect the warmth of the gold beautifully and in much the same way that they would have reflected candlelight many years ago.

Compared to a modern brilliant cut diamond, a Old Mine Cut diamond will certainly look a little more organic, but no two mine cuts will ever be the same. What they may lack in the industry standard of the four C’s, they make up for with an abundance of individuality, character and a timeless beauty. Compare vintage and modern diamonds here.

Ethics are important to us. We are proud to use Old Mine Cut diamonds in our jewellery as they represent and support an ethical and environmentally considered alternative to modern diamonds, as well as a beautiful piece of continued history.
